Canadian Drugs Pharmacy Offers Hope for Smokers with Dementia Risk
One of the leading Canadian drug pharmacies has discovered some new research relating to smokers and the risk of dementia. New research has come to light in Australia on smoking that gives hope to people who smoke after the age of 45. If they can quit smoking even at an older age, the risk of dementia can be reversed.
The recent research from Australia gives new hope to smokers who are older and extra reasons to quit the damaging habit, regardless of how old they are. University of Western Australia scientists have discovered in their research that it doesn’t matter how old or how long you’ve been smoking, it’s still always a good time to quit. By quitting smoking it’s possible to stop dementia from taking hold, the Canadian drugs pharmacy has confirmed from the University’s reports.
Research into Dementia and Smoking Risks
The morning show on ABC radio of 10th February revealed details of the studies, when Nicola Lautenschlager who is a professor of Melbourne University who wrote the study, was interviewed.
She confirmed to the interviewer that earlier studies showed differing results in relation to the risks of smoking and dementia, and that the new investigation was undertaken in order to find out if there was any link between quitting smoking and the progression of dementia in smokers who were older. The experiments saw non-smokers and older smokers participate. They were asked into a trial to stop smoking. Their dementia scale scores were monitored over a two year period, while also conducting memory tests and checking for any changes in gray matter density (grey matter being brain cells), the Canadian drugs pharmacy reports.
The Results of the Dementia and Smoking Link Investigations
The people who were not successful in quitting smoking showed worse results than the non-smokers and those who managed to stop smoking. The professor confirmed that the end results matched with the theory that smoking causes mental deterioration and loss of gray matter in the brain, which is important for the brain to stay healthy.
The good news though, for heavy smokers who have smoked over a long period of time is that stopping smoking can stop further deterioration and possibly even reverse the damage. However, this experiment also showed that the brain volume of smokers was less than that of the non-smokers. Another discovery was that when a patient quits smoking, the brain improved over a two year period and became more like the brain of patients who had never been a smoker.
Stopping Smoking Has So Many Benefits
The Canadian drugs pharmacy also confirmed that the radio interviewer asked the professor what her advice would be to smokers who claim that they are too old to quit and that the health issues are already there, she said that she believed those people were being unrealistic and confirmed that the experiments have proved otherwise, putting emphasis on the fact that there are other benefits including the reduction in risk of heart conditions and general well-being.
